Aaron Sorkin not only wrote but directed his take on the true story of the Chicago Seven the men who were arrested while protesting at the 1968 Democratic National Convention, setting off one of the strangest trials in American history. Your tolerance for Sorkin probably largely depends on how much you enjoy cartwheeling dialog and a grand view of politics, but there’s no denying the cast: Sacha Baron Cohen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Frank Langella, Eddie Redmayne, Mark Rylance, Jeremy Strong, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Michael Keaton and plenty more men and (a few) women are here to make sure that whatever happens, it’ll be well-acted. It’s particularly interesting to see Cohen, still best known as Borat, given the opportunity to deliver a dramatic role, but he looks up to the task here. We’ll know more whenThe Trial of the Chicago Sevencomes to Netflix in October.
