John didn’t know on that Friday what you and I now know. He didn’t know that Friday’s tragedy could be Sunday’s triumph. John would later confess that he “didn’t but perceive from the Scriptures that Jesus should rise from the useless. John 20:9
That’s why what he did on Saturday is so vital.
We don’t know something about this present day; now we have no passage to learn, no information to share. All we all know is that this: When Sunday got here, John was nonetheless current. When Mary Magdalene got here on the lookout for him, she discovered him.
Jesus was useless. The Grasp’s physique was lifeless. John’s buddy and future had been buried. However John had not left. Why? Was he ready for the resurrection? No. So far as he knew, the lips had been endlessly silent and the arms endlessly nonetheless. He wasn’t anticipating a Sunday shock. Then why was he right here?
You’d suppose he would have left. Who was to say that the boys who crucified Christ wouldn’t come after him? The crowds had been happy with one crucifixion; the spiritual leaders may need referred to as for extra. Why didn’t John get out of city?
Maybe the reply was pragmatic; maybe he was caring for Jesus’ mom. Or maybe he didn’t have wherever else to go. May very well be he didn’t have any cash or vitality or path – or the entire above.
Or possibly he lingered as a result of he cherished Jesus.
To others, Jesus was a miracle employee. To others, Jesus was a grasp instructor. To others, Jesus was the hope of Israel. However to John, he was all of those and extra. To John, Jesus was a buddy.
You don’t abandon a buddy, not even when that buddy is useless. John stayed near Jesus.
He had a behavior of doing this. He was near Jesus within the higher room. He was near Jesus within the Backyard of Gethsemane. He was on the foot of the cross on the crucifixion, and he was a fast stroll from the tomb on the burial.
Did he perceive Jesus? No.
Was he glad Jesus did what he did? No.
However did he depart Jesus? No.
What about you? While you’re in John’s place, what do you do? When it’s Saturday in your life, how do you react? If you end up someplace between yesterday’s tragedy and tomorrow’s triumph, what do you do? Do you allow God’ – or do you linger close to him?
John selected to linger. And since he lingered on Saturday, he was round on Sunday to see the miracle.
