As disciples now we have been set aside to expend our time, expertise and treasures on Christ’s message.
“Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” Colossians 3:17
The apostle Paul, chatting with the church in Corinth, offers us perception into how we must always do that. (2 Corinthians 9:6-11).
The primary factor he tells us is that we’re to be beneficiant. “whoever sows generously may even reap generously.” (v 6b) Being beneficiant means displaying a readiness to provide extra of one thing than is strictly needed or anticipated.
Secondly he tells us to be intentional with what we do. “what you’ve gotten determined in your coronary heart to provide,” (v 7a) A deed is an motion that’s carried out deliberately of consciously.
The third factor is that we’re to do it voluntarily, “not reluctantly or below compulsion.” (v 7b)
His fourth instruction is that we do it cheerfully, “for God loves a cheerful giver.”(v 7c)
After which he tells us why… that, abounding in His grace, we may be sufficiently equipped… “God is ready to make all grace abound to you, that at all times having all sufficiency in every part, you might have an abundance for each good deed.” (v8)
…for every part we do in furthering the Kingdom of God. “He who provides seed to the sower and bread for meals will provide and multiply your seed for sowing and improve the harvest of your righteousness; you’ll be enriched in every part for all liberality, which via us is producing thanksgiving to God.” (vs 10,11)
As we do what now we have been known as to do, let’s do it generously, deliberately, freely and cheerfully.
Heavenly Father thanks for educating us that if we sow sparingly we may even reap sparingly, and if we sow bountifully we may even reap bountifully. You inform us that we should just do as now we have purposed in our coronary heart, not grudgingly or below compulsion, for You’re keen on a cheerful giver. And You’ll be able to make all grace abound to us, so that we are going to at all times have all sufficiency in every part, that we might have an abundance for each good deed. Amen.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
