Trusting God as You Wait Beloved Women July 30, 2020
READ: The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. (2 Peter 3:9 ESV)
TODAYS ENCOURAGEMENT: Todays verse comes from 2 Peter 3:9 and happens about thirty years after the resurrection of Christ. Many people of the early church grumbled at the slowness of Christs reappearance. Some even fell away from the church because they gave up waiting. The false teachers of the period mocked Peter by asking him; where is your Jesus? 2,000 years later, we are still waiting on that glorious moment. So, just like those early Christians asked, what is taking so long?
We find the answer within the same scripture. God does not want anyone to miss out on Heaven, so He patiently waits for them. Jesus loves us so much; He wants to give everyone an opportunity for salvation. We should celebrate His slowness, because without it, some of us might miss our chance. Not only did Jesus love us enough to die for us, but He also loves us enough to wait for more people to find Him. God keeps every promise at the perfect time for His glory and for the good of those He loves.
PRAY: Abba Father, thank You for waiting for me and for giving me eternal life. Help me to spread Your good news so others may join us in heaven. I wait for Your glorious return when Your time is right. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.
REFLECT: Do you lose hope when God delays in answering your prayers?
