Will Babies Be in Heaven? (Part 5): 3 Reasons for Hope from the Bible

One of the most painful counseling sessions I have ever sat in as a pastor was with a godly young couple. Sitting in my office, they began by smiling as we opened in prayer together. I had no idea what they wanted to discuss with me and so I asked them how I could serve them.

Immediately, the dear womans face changed, and she began weeping uncontrollably as her husband held her and also began weeping. He explained that they had just miscarried a baby…for the twentieth time!

Suddenly, I found myself joining both of them in mourning as tears flooded my face. This godly wonderful couple had experienced so much loss and grief that it was hard to even fathom their pain. She then asked me pointedly, Where are my babies right now?

What I shared with her in that moment I will now share with you, three reasons for hope from the Bible.

  1. We are sinners from our mothers womb.

Psalm 51:5 (NLT) For I was born a sinneryes, from the moment my mother conceived me.

  1. God knows us and is intimately involved with us from our mothers womb.

Psalm 139:13-16 (NLT) You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mothers womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marveloushow well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born.

  1. God can and does save people from their mothers womb.

Psalm 22:9-10 (NKJV) You are He who took Me out of the womb; You made Me trust while on My mothers breasts. I was cast upon You from birth. From My mothers womb

Examples of this in Scripture include Isaiah (Isa. 49:17) and Jeremiah (Jer. 1:45), both of whom were called by God for prophetic ministry from their mothers wombs. Also, in Luke 1:15, John Baptizer was promised to be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mothers womb.

Long before ultrasounds, our Creator God has seen exactly what is happening in the womb. Although we are sinners, we are also known, loved, and can even be saved from our mothers womb. Additionally, Jesus Christ who became a baby also loves children as we will study in the next daily devotional.
